Every family we serve has a different story, but they all have one thing in common: an unexpected crisis changed everything.
One father had spent more than 24 years working hard to provide for his family. He worked two jobs, cared for his children, helped support his aging parents, and proudly watched his daughter serve our country in the U.S. Army. He had recently begun the legal process to obtain permanent residency.
Then, during what should have been an ordinary trip to the laundromat, he was unexpectedly detained by ICE.
In an instant, the family's primary source of income disappeared.
The following day, another setback struck. His wife lost both of her jobs when delays in processing her DACA work authorization renewal left her unable to work. More than nine months later, she is still waiting for approval.
Overnight, a family supported by two hardworking parents had no income at all.
Three months later, the father was released from detention, and all charges against him were dropped. But the financial and emotional toll remained. Their savings were gone. Bills had piled up. Months of fear and uncertainty had left them struggling to rebuild.
Today, they are working hard to regain stability. They need help catching up on rent, utilities, groceries, and other basic necessities so they can move forward without the constant fear of losing their home.
