Let's Bring DeAngelo Capone Home

This campaign is for DeAngelo Capone, a man locked up falsely on lies, and who has continued the fight to prove his innocence, pursue self-improvement, and the betterment of others, becoming a mentor, religious elder, and author despite  spending the last 3 decades in a broken system. 

In February of 1994 DeAngelo was arrested and later convicted of 3 murders in Cleveland, Ohio based on deeply flawed evidence and coerced testimony. No DNA, fingerprints, gunpowder residue, or physical evidence linked DeAngelo to the crime. Items allegedly stolen were never recovered. A 380. caliber handgun was presented in court despite it not being the murder weapon. The prosecution's case relied on testimony from 3 codefendants, who have since recanted, admitting they were threatened into testifying against DeAngelo.

One of their key witnesses was a five-year-old child who testified while sitting on his father’s lap, who DeAngelo's public defender did not cross examine, even though the child said he saw two shooters.

Another codefendant told both prosecutors and defense attorneys that he had no information linking DeAngelo to the crime. Neither side called him to testify. DeAngelo's alibi, that he was in the hospital with his girlfriend (her birthday) whose cousin was in labor, was never presented to the jury.

We are raising funds to retain experienced legal counsel, and to cover the cost of awareness efforts. DeAngelo has focused his time fighting for equal justice, human rights advocacy, and prison reform.
